Megan Dykeman is a Langley farmer, a small business owner and current Chair of the Langley Board of Education, serving her 3rd term as a Trustee. Megan is proud to have the endorsement of the New Westminster & District Labour Council and has had their support in her previous three campaigns as well.
Megan was born and raised in Ontario and moved to BC when she was 18. Determined to start her own farm, she worked as a bartender to save money for her business. After three years, she opened Freedom Fields Farm, an equine boarding facility in 2000. She had her son AJ in 2003 followed by her daughter Mac in 2005.
Over the years her business may have changed, but her passion for farming has not. Freedom Fields Farm transitioned in 2008 when she relocated from Surrey to Langley, wanting her kids to have the farming lifestyle while still being able to walk to school. It was this move that prompted Megan to put her name forward for the Langley Board of Education after successfully fighting to save her kids local school from closure.
During this time, while raising her two kids and running her business, Megan studied Farm Business Management at the University of Saskatchewan, completed her Bachelor of Professional Arts in Governance, Law and Management from the University of Athabasca, and obtained her Masters in International Relations from Macquarie University. Her thesis focused on food security, an international and local issue that she is passionate about.
An experienced leader, Megan served for 6 years as Community Chair of the Langley Agricultural and Economic Advisory Committee and Chair of the Blueberry Cannon Taskforce. As a Trustee, she has also served on the Provincial Conflict of Interest Committee and various BCSTA committees, including the Finance and Audit Committee.
Active in her community, Megan is the President of the Langley Farmers Institute and the Parliamentarian’s Association of British Columbia. She is a founding “A” leader of ‘Otter Flying Feathers’ 4-H club, the first 4-H poultry club in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley in over 25 years.
As a single mom, the farming lifestyle combined with her commitment to supporting the children and families of the Langley school district doesn’t allow for much free time. When she does get a chance to unwind, she loves to read and travel.
Megan lives on her specialty poultry farm in Langley with her two children, A.J. and Mac, and the turkeys, geese, ducks, quail, chickens and goats of Freedom Fields Farm.
On October 24th please vote MEGAN DYKEMAN for Langley East.
