United Steelworkers Local 2009 is based out of Langley, British Columbia. It is a deep history with the IWA. The IWA was founded as the International Woodworkers of America in 1937 when it was a union that represented loggers and mill workers in Canada and the United States. On September 1, 2004, IWA. Canada merged with the United Steelworkers of America. Our Local Union was created through the amalgamation of former IWA local 3567 and USW Local 2952.

Local 2009 represents approximately 3000 members working in many industries including, sawmills, logging, steel fabrication, steel manufacturing, wood products remanufacturing, nurseries and greenhouses, window and door manufacturing, plastics, transportation and trucking, gaming facilities, offices and warehouses, auto parts, healthcare facilities, Universities and more.

The United Steelworkers union has helped working men and women gain better wages, benefits, working conditions, and workplace justice for more than 70 years. The USW is proud of our work in the areas of health and safety, equality, human rights, global justice, environmental action, organizing, and education.

Thanks to unions like ours, Canadians have been able to bargain better wages, better medical, drug and dental coverage, life insurance and pensions. And all Canadians have benefited from the USW's work on the political front.Steelworkers are considered by many as the Health & Safety Union and were instrumental in lobbying for Bill C-45 (Westray Bill)
